1955 had been a great year for Dolores Duran so far. She had finally hit the top of the charts with the beautiful 'Canção da volta' (The come back song) written by Ismael Neto & Antonio Maria.
Macedo Neto, a radio actor and comedian had had a rough 1954, having attempted suicide in December - a fact that was not hidden by the local media. On the rebound, Macedo wrote the lyrics for 'P'ra que falar de mim?', an inspired melody written by Ismael Neto who had given 'Canção da volta' to Dolores.
Ismael suggested Dolores would be the right singer for the song so he arranged a meeting with her. Apparently it was love at first sight. Macedo & Dolores were engaged almost at the spot.
Suddenly, on 1st March 1955, Dolores had a close encounter with Death when she had heart attack. She was taken to a hospital where she stayed for a few days. Macedo was broken-hearted, having just survived a suicide attempt not 6 months before. During his distress Macedo went out of his way and had the all the papers ready for their wedding.

comediante da Mayrink Veiga e Dolores Duran, cantora da Nacional estavam
perdidamente apaixonados.
- Como é que vocês se
conheceram?
Concordei e a ela fui
apresentado pela Heleninha e o Ismael. Daí....’
Macedo sorri,
Fernando Lobo e outros amigos. Quase sempre iam jantar no Cabeça Chata. O
resolvemos acertar tudinho. Aí a Dolores ficou doente, do coração (3 Março 1955). Eu sofri um
bocado!
Eu tenho 32
anos, nasci em 17 Novembro 1923. Dolores tem 25, é carioca, nascida a 7 Julho 1930.
Os padrinhos do
casamento foram Heleninha Costa e Ismael Neto, naturalmente, pois foram nossos
Cupidos, e o dr. Lauro Paes de Andrade e dona Heloísa, nossos bons amigos.
- Estamos nos casando
apenas no Civil porque não somos católicos. Eu e Dolores somos espíritas.

Revista do Radio, 11 December 1954; shocking news about Macedo Neto attempt to kill himself. He was taken unconscious to a hospital where he stayed a few days. He'd left a note saying he wanted to die due to an unrequited love.

Macedo Neto had a hectic life. After leaving the hospital he went back to work. Met Dolores Duran a few weeks later and fell in love with her. They became engaged and soon after - in early March 1955, Miss Duran had a heart attack and stayed in hospital some time. Macedo thought they should get married sooner than later and that happened on 7 July 1955.
'Fim de caso' written by Dolores Duran.
Macedo & Dolores were best man & maid of honour at the wedding of Nancy Wanderley & Francisco Anysio held at Saint Nicholas Church on Avenida Gomes Freire, 569 in Rio de Janeiro-DF, on 14 August 1956. Nancy Wanderley had been married previously so she had an Orthodox wedding at São Nicolau's. 'Correio da Manhã' 22 August 1956.
With a few clips cut out of Revista do Radio one may follow what was a wedding made-in-heaven cool off to smoke & ash in the span of about 2 years. That was the way Duran-Macedo's marriage soared and landed flat on the floor. It seemed that Dolores Duran knew she didn't have too much time on her hands so she had to live fast.

Dolores Duran plans her European tour...
Macedo-Duran marriage would not reach the ripe age of 3 years. After Dolores returned from Russia and Paris they split up.
Dolores Duran went to Uruguay to relieve Elizeth Cardoso who had worked the previous season in radio stations in Montevideo and in night clubs at resort towns like Punta del Este. Dolores traveled with her husband Macedo Neto, a popular Radio Nacional radio-actor.
Duran sang at night at Club de Paris and appeared on Radio Carve in popular programmes that had the listeners captive. At one time, Dolores was invited to sing at Hospital Pereyra Rossel where children victims of the polio do rehabilitation work. Dolores got hold of a guitar and sang for hours to the children who kept her busy.
Duran's bold attitude was picked up by the local media. 'El Diario' which is the main Montevideo daily sent photographers to the Hospital to take shots of Dolores inter-acting with the kids that were published in the paper and here at Revista do Radio.

This is Dolores Duran's only heir: her adopted daughter Maria Fernanda da Rocha.

Six months after Dolores Duran died, Radiolandia does a photo article about Maria Fernanda da Rocha, the adopted daughter of Dolores and Macedo Neto who was 3 year old by then.
