Radiolandia #309, March 1960. Columnist Jair Amorim says young singer Leila Silva was 'poached' by Chantecler from label California owned by Mario Vieira.
'Correio da Manhã' 10 July 1960 prints the lyrics of 'No Mar Negro' (Nad Morzem Czarnym) Leila's first single for Chantecler in which she was guided by the hands of A&R man Palmeira who actually translated the German lyrics into Portuguese and produced the record himself.
Leila sings sambas written by José Messias, a Rio de Janeiro D.J.
Leila Silva had a short period at RCA Victor circa 1965, after she had reached #1 in the charts with 'Juca do Braz' for Continental. 'Tenho um grande sofrimento' is actually a good production; they assembled a good 'regional' band to emulate the 'chorinho' sound Poly mastered so well in 'Não sabemos' in 1960. They even got a whole brass section to back her up but the final product was not more than 'okay'. Something was missing there. 'Tenho um grande sofrimento' b/w 'Lavadeira tem filho doutor' (LC-6127). After another single: 'Frigideira' b/w 'Rosa Maria flor' (LC-6171) and an E.P. Leila Silva called it quits and went back to Continental.
Leila Silva (LCD-1120) EP at RCA.
